Gi Basic Level
Jiu Jitsu
All new to our program, Harbor Jiu Jitsu has added a Gi class to the regular class schedule. Gi Jiu Jitsu differs from NoGi in that the pace and grips you can establish alter the game to a certain extent. For the most part Jiu Jitsu is Jiu Jitsu and we love being able to offer our members the option of having a day out of the week where they can train and learn in the Gi. (Kimono is required to participate in this class)
Open Mat/Live Training
Open Mat is available for Harbor Jiu Jitsu students only. It is a time available for students to use the mats as they wish. Students are welcome to get their own workouts in, stretch, review techniques with fellow students, train live Jiu Jitsu rounds under head instructor supervision.
So what exactly is
NoGi and Gi Jiu Jitsu?
NoGi simply means training Jiu Jitsu without the Gi (jacket & pants, aka kimono). A Gi is a traditional martial arts uniform & the underlining difference between training Gi as opposed to NoGi are the grips involved. In order to apply Jiu Jitsu techniques, one must first engage in establishing connection to an opponent or training partner. The grips, pace, and techniques vary from Gi Jiu Jitsu to No Gi Jiu Jitsu.
